CEBU Pacific (CEB) is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability with the addition of two electric buses to its airport shuttle fleet. This move is part of the airline’s ongoing efforts to shift its ground operations towards electric, zero-emission vehicles.

Alex Reyes, chief strategy officer of Cebu Pacific, stated, “As the aviation industry recognizes the urgent need for sustainable operations, Cebu Pacific is extending its efforts beyond aircraft modernization. Incorporating electric buses into our ground operations is a step in this direction, aiming to reduce our carbon footprint and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.”

Leased from Therma One (T1) Transport and manufactured by BYD, these electric buses will transport CEB passengers between the boarding gate and the aircraft. Anthony Fernandez, president and chief operating officer of First Balfour, expressed confidence in the partnership contributing to a safer and more sustainable travel experience.

While CEB currently operates 25 conventional fuel-powered buses at NAIA Terminals 3 and 4, the pilot program with these two electric units will provide valuable insights into real-world performance. This initiative aligns with Cebu Pacific’s comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) transition program, aiming to replace conventional vehicles with zero-emission alternatives and contribute to the aviation industry’s net-zero goal by 2050.

Looking ahead to 2024, CEB remains committed to leading innovations that align with sustainability goals and promote environmentally friendly practices within the aviation sector.
