Carmen Copper deepens support to help fight COVID-19

On Aug. 16, Carmen Copper Corp. donated critical medical equipment to ten public hospitals in Cebu province.

The medical equipment consists of Mindray SV300 ventilators and Respircare Hifent HUMID-BM high flow nasal cannulas.

Four ventilators will be distributed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebu City Medical Center, Talisay City District Hospital and the Cebu Provincial Hospital in the Municipality of Balamban.

Six nasal devices will be turned over to the Toledo City General Hospital, Vicente Mendiola Center for Health Infirmary (City of Naga), Barili District Hospital and the Provincial Hospitals in the cities of Bogo, Carcar and Danao.

Carmen Copper has offered its Recreation Center as a vaccination site for its employees and stakeholders including De La Salle Andres Soriano Memorial College, personnel from Barangay Don Andres Soriano, and officers of the Philippine National Police, and its subcontractors.

As of Aug. 24, some 68 percent of Carmen Copper’s employees have already received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Carmen Copper provided COVID-19 relief to over 16,000 affected households. It also sent aid to 38 barangays in Toledo City.

Globe, Caritas PH provide education, livelihood support

To help address gaps in education and livelihood across the country, Globe extended seed funding together with digital tools, and skills training for 500 disadvantaged youth across the country through its partnership with Caritas Philippines.

The support is aimed at improving student performance and instilling micro-entrepreneurship skills among junior and senior high school students in 10 communities considered priority areas of Pilipinas Kontra Gutom and where Caritas Philippines dioceses have available community partners.

These are located in Mt. Province, Quezon, and Camarines Sur in Luzon; Capiz and Negros Oriental in Visayas; and Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, and 2 communities in Cotabato in Mindanao

Globe’s support is coursed through Caritas Philippine’s Alay Kapwa Educational Assistance program and Self Help Groups (SHeG) program.

The Alay Kapwa Educational Assistance program aims to increase the percentage of graduates from poor communities through accompaniment and tutorial services. Selected students will also receive devices plus initial data packages for use in distance learning. They will also be given access to Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program workshops to increase awareness and deepen their understanding of digital citizenship and cybersafety.

Cebu Pacific gifts Paralympic delegation with free flights

Cebu Pacific honors the Philippine delegation to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics after they poured out all their efforts and made Filipinos proud.

To show our appreciation, CEB awards all four athletes of the Paralympic team with free flights, which they may share with their respective teams and support systems.

Every Juan of them deserves to fly: Ernie Gawilan and Gary Bejino for Para Swimming; Jerrold Mangliwan for Para Athletics; and Allain Ganapin for Para Taekwondo.

Each member of the Philippine delegation will receive 25 flights for free, to commemorate the airline’s 25 years of enabling everyjuan to fly.

The tickets may be used for any domestic and international short haul destination in the Cebu Pacific network.

PLDT, Smart tie up with BatStateU

PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) have signed an agreement with Batangas State University (BatStateU) to provide connectivity solutions to the institution’s students and faculty.

By the fourth quarter of the year, fast, reliable, and fiber-powered Smart WiFi will be rolled out across the eight campuses of BatStateU located in Nasugbu, Alangilan, Lemery, Lipa, Rosario, Pablo Borbon, Malvar, and Balayan in anticipation of the resumption of in-person instruction.

The school administration is designing a blended learning approach in which half of the classes will be conducted virtually, while the other half will be held face-to-face.

“In preparation for the return of our students to school, this free WiFi service is a significant addition to our existing bandwidth capacity. Not only that, it also addresses the challenge of connecting the many different campuses of Batangas State University in the midst of the New Normal,” said Dr. Tirso Ronquillo, BatStateU president.

PH communicators shine

Philippine communicators were recognized at the recently concluded global conference and communication excellence awards of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

Ritzi Villarico-Ronquillo, APR, IABC fello and IABC Philippines adviser, recently chaired the 2021 Gold Quill Awards, and is the first Filipino to have been given this honor.

Another Filipino speaker at the IABC World Conference was Dave Devilles, IABC Philippines board trustee and Union Bank of the Philippines vice president for Sustainability, CSR and Employee Relations. His talk “HEROES2021: Employee Volunteerism Elevates CSR Through Innovative Campaign,” shared insights on how communicators can elevate CSR programs by harnessing a company’s digital capability, its knowledge capital, and its human capital through employee volunteerism.

Kane Errol Choa, APR, IABC Philippines adviser and ABS-CBN head of Corporate Communication, was recently named director of Recognition at IABC Asia Pacific.

Chosen taps PascualLab

Afni Philippines Inc. is expected to open a new site at SM City Fairview next year and is looking for a new location outside of Metro Manila.

Hiring, has been non-stop with a new and improved recruitment hub now operational in Quezon City.

Afni recently held its annual Family Day, one of its key employee engagement activities.

Viber is bringing more fun and color to chats with the all-new Viber Lens.

Teaming up with Snap Inc., the tech company behind Snapchat, Viber is adding the magic of augmented reality (AR) to its in-app camera with the first batch of its Viber Lenses–30 camera filters like animal masks, fantasy effects, Bitmoji avatars, and Viber characters. Viber is also planning to add at least 20 additional lenses each month to keep the fun going. Some Lenses also allow one to change colors or the stickers that appear on the screen.
