Shopee donates  school chairs

On November 11, Shopee went to Rizal, Palawan donated more than 1,000 school chairs to the Jose P. Rizal National High School.

The donation was in response to a wish of Sitti Adges – who submitted the winning video for the Barangay Shopee contest –  to provide all students of Jose P. Rizal National High School with new school chairs.

Managing fuel costs thru technology 

UnionBank GlobalLinker recently partnered with Seaoil Philippines, Inc. for an initiative that will help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) manage rising fuel costs through technology.

Under the partnership, which was signed last October 26, MSMEs on the GlobalLinker platform will be able to avail of special rebates when they purchase fuel from SEAOIL via the PriceLOCQ app or the PriceLOCQ for Business web portal. PriceLOCQ app users can enjoy a P300 fuel voucher with a minimum purchase of P3,000 worth of fuel.

Meralco supports hotel industry

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has reaffirmed its commitment to support the recovery of local hotel operators as they bounce back from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a webinar recently organized by Meralco, the power distributor, which has long been a partner of the Philippine Hotel Owners Association (PHOA), pledged to continue providing stable and reliable electricity service, and energy solutions befitting to the needs of the industry moving forward.

According to PHOA executive director Benito  Bengzon Jr., Meralco played a vital role in helping PHOA members deliver on their commitments with energy-saving measures, such as contract rightsizing and temporary waiving of the Guaranteed Minimum Billing Demand.

Meralco’s I Interruptible Load Program (ILP) is  a demand-side management program of the Department of Energy where large businesses are asked to temporarily de-load from the grid when the Luzon grid is placed under red alert.

Among the companies in the hospitality industry within Meralco’s franchise that are enrolled under the ILP are Taal Vista, City of Dreams, Discovery Suites, Diamond Hotel, Sofitel Manila, and Raffles and Fairmont Hotel.

Globe collaborates with Mapúa on technopreneurship

Globe deepens its commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in the Philippines by collaborating with the Mapúa University on technopreneurship training, upskilling, mentorship, and curriculum development.  Together with the University, Globe’s IT Academy will be conducting Train-the-Trainers (T3) Certification to equip teachers in the delivery of Technopreneurship in the classroom.

Mapúa is the county’s premier engineering and technological school, with a tradition of excellence in engineering and sciences, architecture and design, information technology, business and management, media and communication studies, and social sciences education.The university hand-picked teachers specializing in STEM courses at the college level to join the program and also assigned teachers’ trainers to complete the T3 Certification.

The technopreneurship training consists of a 10-week learning session covering the development of entrepreneurial skills, attitudes, and mindsets of techies, scientists, and researchers within a business framework. Animo Labs, the technology business incubator of the De La Salle University, will be Globe’s training partner for the activity.

Beyond technopreneurship, Globe will engage Mapúa in student placement and upskilling initiatives through on-the-job training and internships, and participation in STEM-related learning engagements.
