Off to FINA
Fresh from her SEA Games success in Hanoi, Vietnam, #AtletangAyala and OlympianJasmine Alkhaldi will once again plunge into action at the 19th FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary on June 18 to July 3.
The 29-year-old swimmer, who also represented the Philippines in the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics, bagged a silver and a bronze medal in women’s 4x100m medley relay and women’s 100m butterfly, respectively, from the recent SEA Games.
During the Games, Alkhaldi also earned a “B” Standard Entry Time (women’s 50m freestyle) in a FINA qualifying event, enabling her to clinch a spot with Miranda Renner and Jonathan Cook.
Alkhaldi is one of eight national athletes that compose the pioneering batch of #AtletangAyala. Each athlete underwent a rigorous screening process that lasted for a month.
UPS appointment
UPS has appointed Russell Reed as managing director of UPS Philippines.
A 29-year UPS veteran, Reed brings a wealth of global and cross-functional experience to the role which will see him spearhead the company’s efforts to boost cross-border growth opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in the Philippines.

Recruitment solutions startup Recruitday last June 10 completed the launch of the Recruitday Metaverse, the Philippines’ first-ever career platform based in the metaverse.
Recruitday Metaverse is an interactive, virtual space where participants can explore possible career opportunities in the tech industry. The space functions much like a real-life job fair, with the key difference being that it is accessible 24/7.
The launch gave users the chance to mingle with tech communities, consult with recruiters for career advice, and avail of tech-related courses. Attendees had the chance to win an Oculus Quest virtual reality headset.

Netpreneur training Program
Alibaba Global Initiatives (AGI), a professional training arm of Alibaba Group, will launch a new edition of its Alibaba Netpreneur Training program in the Philippines with support from QBO Innovation Hub, the country’s first public-private partnership platform for local startups, regional venture capital firm Gobi Partners via their Gobi-Core Philippine Fund (Core Capital), and leadership development organization JCI Manila.
The four-week program will include a series of online classes to support local entrepreneurs across different sectors in harnessing digital technology to grow their businesses within the local economy.
Scheduled to run from July 12 to August 16, the latest edition of the Alibaba Netpreneur Training continues AGI’s efforts to equip entrepreneurs and business leaders with tangible and actionable steps they can take to advance in the digital economy.
AGI has trained 150 entrepreneurs in the Philippines through this program since its launch last year.
This year’s curriculum will offer a more dedicated focus on post-pandemic online commerce trends such as cross-border shopping and other digital economy developments, to align with businesses’ growing pivot towards e-commerce and their needs to navigate this changing landscape.

BPI SEAL empowers MSEs
BPI Foundation, the social development arm of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) launched a program for the development of local micro and small enterprises (MSEs) called BPI Small Enterprise Acceleration Lab (SEAL), with its first track, Small Enterprise Growth Agenda (SEGA), in partnership with Bayan Academy.
BPI SEAL-SEGA is a search for start-up businesses that are ready to develop their viable business ventures. This project is designed to meet the needs of start-up businesses through training, mentoring sessions, and cash grants. The program aims to help startups assess their products, services, operations, and marketing and assist them in developing their start-up plan.
Fifty MSEs will be chosen for the boot camps to showcase their plans through a business pitch to a panel of judges. The Top 1—10 will receive a cash grant of P100,000 each, while the Top 11—20 will bring home Php50,000 each.
The business challenge is open to start-up entrepreneurs who are 18 years old and above, and whose enterprise’s asset size is P1 million and below. The application period will run until July 15.
Lazada, Great Deals tie up
Great Deals E-commerce Corp. has further enhanced the logistics efficiency of e-commerce giant Lazada with the launch of its fulfillment centers in the major cities of Cebu and Davao.
This partnership enables customers in Visayas and Mindanao to receive their parcels as fast as one to three days after placing an order.
The building of fulfillment centers in Cebu and Lazada will soon bring Great Deals’ partner brands closer to their customers in Mindanao as a fulfillment center in Davao is set to open in July. These brands include Betadine, Alaska, Fonterra, the manufacturer of Anlene and Anchor, Bayer, Century, GSK, and Abbott.
Following the success of Amazon and Alibaba in digitalizing the brick-and-mortar e-commerce, Great Deals has already started the development of its 70,000-square meters fulfillment center in San Rafael, Bulacan, where they will introduce the use of robots to scale up to a million orders in a day.
Torre del Oro goes solar
Torre del Oro, which leases out buildings and warehouses to manufacturing companies engaged in export, tapped Meralco Biz Partners for their solar energy requirements.
Meralco subsidiary Spectrum installed solar panels in their facilities located at the Light Industry & Science Park III in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, allowing them to offer more competitive lease rates for their tenants, while contributing to their corporate responsibility initiatives.
The solar project offers a product warranty ranging from 10 to 25 years.
Aside from being a way to cut costs, going solar, encompasses the company’s social responsibility to promote green energy as an alternative energy source to reduce our carbon waste.

Twitter has some features to make users more in control of their Twitter experience: Choose who can reply to your Tweets in conversation settings; hide replies on off-topic or spammy posts; mute words, phrases, usernames, emojis, and hashtags that may be abusive and block accounts feature to restricting specific accounts from contacting people, seeing their Tweets, and becoming followers.
