ABOITIZPOWER and Cotabato Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Cotelco) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to support Cotelco’s initiatives to prevent obstruction of electrical lines within its franchise area.

The MOA includes the donation of chainsaws by AboitizPower to aid Cotelco’s front liners in clearing and organizing electrical wires that may disrupt its disaster response team during calamities.

The project is timely as Cotabato is a flood-prone area during the typhoon season. The equipment to be donated by AboitizPower will help Cotelco start its disaster preparedness efforts early.

Cotelco-Main has been AboitizPower’s partner for the past 12 years, and both parties have collaborated on several corporate social responsibility projects, including donating computers, rewiring classrooms, and supporting radio-based instruction.

The MOA is another step toward developing communities and improving disaster resilience among member-consumers.

Angeli Parcia, AboitizPower’s wholesale head, stressed the importance of supporting the government’s mandate to ensure continuous and uninterrupted transmission and distribution of electricity.

Obstruction to electrical wires that could potentially pose risk hazards to the community definitely needs to be addressed.

The project is a great opportunity to contribute to risk reduction and promote disaster preparedness in the region.
