BALANGA CITY, BATAAN — Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) has formalized a five-year partnership with the Provincial Government of Bataan to fund engineering scholarships, addressing a critical need for technical expertise in the province’s infrastructure development.
The agreement establishes a P10 million educational fund through GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), with annual contributions of P2 million starting April. The initiative will support 200 students at Bataan Peninsula State University – Main Campus and Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Mariveles.
“This partnership brings us closer to our vision of building a strong, capable, and progressive Bataeño family,” said Governor Joet Garcia. “Quality education serves as the cornerstone for our community’s brighter future.”
AboitizPower Transition Business Group COO Celso Caballero emphasized the transformative impact of their educational initiatives: “These aren’t just numbers on a page – these are stories of transformation. We’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact of investing in education.”
The current program expands upon existing scholarship efforts that have already supported 206 scholars since GMEC launched the initiative in 2015, with GNPD joining in 2023. Fifty students have graduated through this support.
Scholar Rainiel Salandanan shared the program’s personal impact: “The ‘Iskolar ng Bataan’ program provides crucial support for my education, especially as the child of a solo parent. It relieves my parent from worrying about my educational expenses.”
This scholarship initiative falls under the partners’ P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. program’s “ Elevate Educational Opportunities” component and complements the province’s “Iskolar ng Bayan” program.
AboitizPower, one of the Philippines’ largest power producers with over 50 facilities nationwide, continues to advance its vision of “Transforming Energy for a Better World” through targeted community development initiatives.
