The 21st National Peace Consciousness Month officially commenced today with a ceremonial ringing of the World Peace Bell, symbolizing the steadfast and shared commitment of Filipinos to fostering peace, mutual understanding, and solidarity. The momentous event was led by Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Endo Kazuya and Presidential Peace Adviser Sec. Carlito G. Galvez, Jr.
Since its declaration 21 years ago under Presidential Proclamation No. 675, September has been embraced as Peace Month—a time for Filipinos of every tribe, religion, and belief to unite under the banner of peace and cultivate a culture of harmony across the archipelago.
This year’s theme, “Mapayapang Bukas, Abot-Kamay sa Bagong Pilipinas,” honors the peace milestones the nation has achieved and celebrates a future filled with peace, unity, and respect. Sec. Galvez calls this theme a clarion call for all sectors of society to join hands in realizing the shared vision of a just and lasting peace for the Philippines.
“Building on and sustaining the gains of the comprehensive Philippine peace process is not the work of the government alone,” Sec. Galvez emphasized. “It is a shared responsibility requiring every Filipino to work hand-in-hand so that no one is left behind.” To mark the month-long celebration, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity has planned various activities in partnership with stakeholders nationwide. Sec. Galvez invites all Filipinos to reflect personally on the meaning of peace and to actively promote mutual understanding and solidarity.
