Home improvements and construction supply distributor Wilcon Depot Inc. expects 2023 to be a more subdued year as it comes from a high growth momentum in 2022.

Rosemarie Bosch-Ong, Wilcon chief operating officer, said the company in 2022 recorded  a 50.2 percent jump in  bottom line to P3.858 billion, out of a 22 percent increase in top line to P33.57 billion.

Bosch-Ong said Wilcon is on track to open more than 10 stores this year. These are in Sta. Maria, Bulacan; Naic, Cavite; Iligan City, Lanao del Norte; Tuy, Batangas; Valencia, Bukidnon; Koronadal; and Bacolod.

Bosch-Ong said the company’s performance this year will still be a carryover of its businesses last year, as some developments are being put on hold.

“The construction sector grew by 7 percent last year, and they’re expecting it to grow even further. And the full recovery will be 2024. We’re still very bullish, although we’ve experienced some customers trading down some of their requirements,” she said. – Ruelle Castro
