The Department of Agriculture (DA) announced that the suggested retail price (MSRP) for imported rice will remain at P43 per kilogram, even during the upcoming two-month suspension of rice imports.
The import ban is set to begin on Sept. 1, 2025.
“We will maintain the MSRP even during the two-month rice import ban,” Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said.
“Throughout the suspension, we will closely monitor supply and market dynamics—especially among retailers, wholesalers, and importers—and take appropriate action to uphold market discipline,” he said.
The DA confirmed that the MSRP for 5 percent broken imported rice was reduced to P43 per kilo from P45 on July 16. The duration of the import suspension could be adjusted, depending on rice price changes and the results of the upcoming Philippine harvest season.
