Gasoline prices seen rising, diesel falling this week

Motorists face mixed fuel price changes this week, with gasoline set to climb while diesel and kerosene prices decline.

Gasoline will increase by P0.50 to P0.70 per liter starting Tuesday, while diesel will fall by P0.80 to P1 per liter, based on the past week’s trading results, Jetti Petroleum Inc. said over the weekend

“Demand for diesel appeared to be slowing down as supply continued to build up,” Jetti Petroleum President Leo Bellas said. He noted that gasoline demand remained strong, boosted by the summer driving season in the United States.

Bellas said inventory buildup in the US and concerns over weakening global demand have weighed on crude prices.

“On the other hand, easing trade war concerns after the US and China extended a pause on higher tariffs, and optimism over a potential US interest rate cut in September, have put a floor on oil prices,” he added.

The Department of Energy (DOE) confirmed the expected trend.

Rodela Romero, director of the DOE’s Oil Industry Management Bureau, said kerosene prices could also fall by about P1 per liter, though the final adjustment will depend on complete five-day trading data.

Last week, oil firms rolled back prices by P0.40 per liter for gasoline, P1.50 for diesel and P1.30 for kerosene.

Despite recent cuts, fuel prices remain higher than at the start of the year. So far in 2025, gasoline has increased by P10.80 per liter, diesel by P12.75 and kerosene by P2.65.

As of August 5 to 11, DOE data showed average pump prices in Metro Manila stood at P55.30 per liter for RON 91 gasoline, P56 for diesel and P74.90 for kerosene.
