Tatak Pinoy priority list out Dec. 4

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will release on December 4 the partial list of products and services that will be given priority for local sourcing in government procurement under the Tatak Pinoy Act (TPA).

At the Kapihan sa Manila Bay on Wednesday, Ma. Teresa Faustino, OIC-director of the Bureau of Policy Research and Innovation, said the list will be unveiled at the Tatak Pinoy Summit where the DTI will report on the progress of the implementation of the TPA whose guidelines were released in May.

Faustino said the DTI, lead implementor of the TPA, will also present the multi-year planning   framework which would include programs and activities under the law The draft strategy will address constraints and challenges and proposed solutions in the TPA.

“We are checking and updating roadmaps which will show the status of industries,” Faustino said.

The DTI said TPA goes beyond the “buy Pinoy” campaign as it encourages the development of local industries.

“Importation is not bad …we need imports especially for (products) that are not produced locally.  We don’t want imports that cause or threaten to cause injury to domestic enterprises. 

We have to strengthen the domestic capability, “Faustino said. Based on studies, the top product procured by government is paper.
