THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with counterparts in Asean on a data and information sharing initiative that will enhance aviation safety in the region.
The signing was held at the 59th Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conference held in Lapu-Lapu City last October 16.
The MOU aims to enhance CAAP’s safety management activities by leveraging de-identified safety data that recognize emerging hazards, track trends, and implement measures that support the goals of the Asia-Pacific Regional Aviation Safety plan and improve risk management.
”The cross border nature of aviation demands that we work together. Through this agreement, we will collectively identify emerging trends and hazards, allowing the continuous development of proactive measures that advance safety goals across the Asia-Pacific. Together, we will ensure safer skies for all,” said CAAP director-general Manuel Antonio Tamayo.
The shared data, sourced from mandatory safety, will initially focus on seven key safety categories, including severe turbulence and dangerous goods incidents.
CAAP said the Philippines will play an active role in collecting and analyzing this data to identify regional safety trends.
About 432 aviation industry leaders from the Asia-Pacific region attended the DGCA which focused on key issues such as safety and security, with a particular emphasis on reducing carbon emissions in line with this year’s theme of resiliency, sustainability and inclusivity.
