Tulong Kapatid
Tulong Kapatid, the alliance of Foundations and companies in the MVP Group, turned over face shields, grocery packs, bread, and bottled water to various waste management providers of the local government unit of Quezon City.
Around 500 Quezon City waste management enforcers will receive 300 face shields, and 500 food bags containing canned goods, coffee, rice, Sari Roti breads, Kopiko and bottled water. The companies and foundations that participated in the turnover were Metro Pacific Investments Foundation, One Meralco Foundation, PLDT-Smart Foundation, Maynilad and Alagang Kapatid Foundation of TV5.
“The mandate for Tulong Kapatid to reach out to garbage collectors came from our chairman, Manuel V. Pangilinan.” said MPIFI president Melody del Rosario. “They play a vital role in our society and neglecting them could pose enormous health and environmental issues.”
One Meralco Foundation president Jeffrey Tarayao said, “On a regular day we might have undermined the big service our basureros provide. During this pandemic, we saw how important they are in ensuring cleanliness and sanitation in our homes and communities. These care packages represent our gratitude and our genuine concern for them and the wellbeing of their families in the most difficult time.”
Government Relations head of Maynilad, Anette de Ocampo also added, “The MVP Group makes sure no one is left behind. The solid waste management are our frontliners who continue to work despite the threat of Covid-19 and keeping them healthy makes us healthy too.”

San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has begun turning over its donation of COVID-19 testing booths starting with the cities of Mandaluyong, Pasig, and Manila, making good on an earlier promise to help boost the testing capacities of all 17 Metro Manila local government units.
A total of 24 testing booths were turned over to Mandaluyong Mayor Carmelita Abalos, Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto, and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
Delivery of testing booths for other LGUs–Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon, Las Pinas, Paranaque, Muntinlupa, Makati, Navotas, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, Valenzuela, Pasay, and Pateros–will continue this coming week.
Apart from the testing booths, SMC is also donating P3 million worth of PCR tests to each of the 17 LGUs, equivalent to 34,000 tests.
The company is also set to turn over an additional three sets of RT-PCR testing machines and automated RNA machines to key government hospitals.
“We are fully committed to helping all our Metro Manila LGUs increase their COVID-19 testing capabilities, in support of the national government’s expanded testing goals,” said SMC president Ramon S. Ang.
Ang batted for the regulation of the price of testing, to make it affordable for regular Filipinos and small companies that have to test their employees before returning to work. Along this line, SMC is working with the local government of its home city of Mandaluyong to ensure that the cost to test in the city remains affordable.
SMC had earlier donated five sets of the same testing machines to the Department of Health (DoH) and testing kits which can administer up to 20,000 tests.
According to the DOH, the donation effectively doubled the country’s testing capacity.
