Insular Foundation donates storybooks to DepEd Muntinlupa

 In time for the opening of classes in August, Insular Foundation the corporate social responsibility arm of Insular Life, recently turned over 4,000 storybooks to the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Schools Division Office- Muntinlupa. Donation campaign for youth set

To help support adaptive education implementation in the Philippines this coming school year, youth volunteer organization I am M.A.D. (Making A Difference) launched a bayanihan initiative dubbed as BIDA Eskwela (Bigay-Ayuda para sa Eskwela).

Other partners in the campaign are the National Youth Volunteers Coalition and Youth Advocates for the Philippines.

The BIDA Eskwela donation campaign aims to raise at least P200,000 in 40 days from July 9 to August 17. 

The group encourages the public to be a part of this drive by donating at least P40.

To drum up the campaign, a social media push under the hashtag #BIDAEskwelaKwarenta has been created. It literally means 40 days and is a play on the word quarantine.

BIDA Eskwela targets to send support to 20 school beneficiaries in mostly underprivileged and remote communities nationwide.

Vivant names new chairman and CEO

Publicly-listed Cebuano company Vivant Corporation has named Ramontito Garcia as its new chairman of the board and CEO.

Edgar John Garcia, meanwhile, was named as Vice Chairman of the Board while Arlo A.G. Sarmiento was promoted as President of the company.

Emil Andre Garcia has been appointed Senior Vice President for Power. He is also EVP and COO of subsidiary Vivant Energy, which serves as holding company for Vivant Corporation’s interests in the energy sector.

Chairman Garcia expressed confidence in Vivant Corporation’s ability to adapt and thrive amid the challenges that industries and communities currently face.

“As I take the helm of Vivant, it is important to note that our Mission, Vision and Values remain.  We have always maintained a future-facing approach to how we do business with an emphasis on adaptability in order to face challenges and grab opportunities to improve the everyday lives of the Filipino people,” Chairman Garcia said.

“While this year has seen more unpredictability than any other year in Vivant’s history, I am confident in the abilities and resilience of our team and the strength of our relationships with our partners and communities to know that we will overcome these obstacles and emerge even stronger than before,” he added.

Vivant is one of the few Cebu-based companies that is listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange. It is a management and holding company with investments in the energy sector and a growing interest in infrastructure development.

Holcim embeds sustainability in COVID recovery

Cement manufacturer Holcim Philippines Inc. reiterated its commitment to improving environmental and social performance as it supported calls for COVID-19 recovery programs to be aligned with efforts to address larger sustainability challenges.

As a member of LafargeHolcim, Holcim Philippines is committed to supporting the achievement of targets aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainability Goals.

As of 2019, Holcim Philippines has progressed in its 2030 targets of reducing carbon emissions by 40 percent versus 1990 levels and freshwater withdrawal per ton of cement by 30 percent versus 2015. Among the drivers of its lower emissions are its introduction of more blended cement options and use of low-carbon fuels.

Last year, Solido, a blended cement designed as a better alternative to Ordinary Portland Cement for roads and light infrastructures.

Holcim also used more than 170,000 tons of alternative fuel and alternative raw material processed from biomass and waste materials from industries. This helped the company avoid coal in cement production for 38 days leading while helping its partners manage their wastes in an eco-friendly manner.

Corporate citizenship programs under Holcim Helps benefitted 229,170 individuals last year. With this, the company has helped more than 800,000 people since 2015, surpassing its commitment to the LafargeHolcim Group of assisting 400,000 people by 2020.

GCash, Singlife tie up to launch digital Insurance Marketplace

Globe Telecom mobile unit GCash has partnered with digital insurer Singlife Philippines to provide access to relevant, affordable, and secure insurance products.

GCash said the offering of insurance product is the next step towards its goal to attain financial inclusion for all Filipino, an addition to current financial services such as savings, on-demand credit, and investments.

“Cash seeks to maximize the reach of technology to promote health and financial security especially during this global health situation. After offering customers a new, more customer-friendly way to do banking transactions, partnering with Singlife Philippines will allow us to also offer our clients access to a number of meaningful life insurance products that cater to their financial well-being,” said Martha Sazon, GCash chief executive officer (CEO).
