A tribute to National Artist Lucio San Pedro
THE Sunshine Classics online series will once again delight music lovers with a new line-up of classical concerts. Viewed from Sunshine Place: Senior Recreation Center’s YouTube channel, viewers can get a private link to the concert upon ticket purchase. Viewing of each concert is available for one month. With one click, registrant can access the concert video as many times as they want.
This begins with a tribute to National Artist for Music Lucio D. San Pedro, in celebration of his February 11 birthday,by the Angono National Symphonic Band with conductors Jonald John C. Prades and Giuseppe Andre “Jopi” V. Diestro on February 15 to March 15; and Singing In Sunshine with soprano Stefanie Quintin-Avila, tenor Ivan Nery and pianist Mariel Ilusorio on March 15 to April 15.
The Angono National Symphonic Band will be playing his timeless compositions and arrangements which include Jubilate Heroic March, Pamulinawen, Suite Pastorale, 1956: Horizon ‘Abot Tanaw’, Sunset in the Village ‘Dapit Hapon’, Rustic Dance ‘Pista Sa Nayon’, Millenium March, Maharlika March, Pandanggo sa Ilaw, Kaming Magmamani, Martsa Galante, Lahing Kayumanggi and Silayan.
Other upcoming performances in the Sunshine Classic online series include the Manila Symphony Junior String Quartet on July 15 to August 15; Nostalgia with Inna Montesclaros on September 15 to October 15; and the Manila Piano Trio on November 15 to December 15, 2021.

Millennial Denise Ayson loves to travel, to explore the world, to create lasting experiences. Down to earth, fun-loving, honest to a fault, hardworking, are words friends and family oftentimes use to describe her.
At 26, she became an officer in one of the country’s leading universal banks, Chinabank , working as a Business Analyst in the IT department.
When the bank’s headquarters transferred to Makati, her family purchased a unit at SMDC Jazz Residences along Nicanor Garcia Ave., a short distance from her Paseo de Roxas office.
Denise likes inviting friends over for coffee at Starbucks or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, or chill nights with fries from Potato Corner and drinks and munchies from SM Hypermarket. Other times it would be nachos and wings from Buffalo’s Wings N Things or Chinese food at Classic Savory, Peking Pavilion, Ming Xuan Hongkong Taste or Meilin.
Being close to work, Jazz Mall is a favorite after-office hangout, and also became home to the love story of Denise and CJ, a workmate, spending dates in restaurants like Ryu Ramen, Kuya J’s and Vikings as their favorites. They would work out together at the Jazz Residences gym.
Working from home since March due to the lockdown, Denise gets what she needs from the mall, or have things delivered for a small fee by Errands Xpress. There is also an LBC at the mall.
Jazz Mall is home to over 40 retail shops consisting of a supermarket, a pharmacy, a hardware, several restaurants and service establishments, including a bank, health and beauty centers and a courier service.
BDO offers QR Code withdrawals from select BDO ATMs
Clients can now make card-less, QR Code-based withdrawals from select BDO ATMs.
“Withdrawing using QR Codes is now available in the Philippines,” said Tovi Mendoza, BDO Senior Vice President and Head of ATM Network & Applied Payment Solutions. “Now, our clients will enjoy faster and more convenient transactions, and most importantly, limit the risk of catching COVID-19 since they will touch the ATM surface a lot less.”
The new service, he added, will benefit those who are encouraged to stay home for their health and safety. “Despite our security controls however, we remind our clients to entrust their Withdrawal QR Codes with others prudently,” Mendoza noted.
To generate a QR Code, login your BDO Digital Banking App. Click on “More” from the options. Select “Withdraw” then “Via QR.” Pick the account, input the amount, and save the QR Code.
Each QR Code is unique to each withdrawal transaction. It is valid for only 24 hours upon generation to protect your account. BDO clarifies though that a Withdrawal QR Code is different from the Account QR Code used to Send Money.
To withdraw, tap “QR Code Transaction” on the ATM screen and allow the machine to scan your QR Code. Pick if you would like a receipt or not, then wait for the machine to dispense your cash.
Currently, there are over 100 QR-enabled ATMs in Makati City. This year, the bank is looking at installing more of these upgraded machines nationwide.
PDRF takes first steps toward ISO certification
The Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) has begun its journey towards becoming the first non-profit/humanitarian organization in the country to become ISO 9001:2015 certified.
As part of the organization’s commitment to serve their community effectively and efficiently, PDRF initiated the application process for ISO certification.
ISO-certified organizations are recognized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), a global entity that seeks to provide standardization across various products and companies ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of products, services, and systems.
Organizations have to undergo meticulous assessments and adjustments of their internal processes to meet international standards. Certification is handled by a third-party certifying body and is tested annually.
As an initial step towards acquiring the certification, PDRF recently conducted a two-day orientation on ISO led by a certified auditor. The first session focused on the top management while the second one focused on the general employee population of PDRF. PDRF Executive Director Veronica Gabaldon also led the Pledge of Commitment where all attendees expressed their commitment to improving their work and delivering high quality service.
Big Blue Hearts introduced in Laguna schools
Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) , ABS-CBN, Globe Telecom and Mary’s Way Foundation have partnered for the Big Blue Hearts Campaign, which provides teachers, students, and parents the tools for teaching and learning such as internet modems and internet load. With these tools, students can now access the video lessons from the Wikaharian series, a show on Knowledge Channel that teaches children to read in Filipino.
Introduced to Grade 1 classes in 18 public schools in Sta. Rosa, Laguna in 2019 through KCFI’s Basa Bilang project, Wikaharian was able to help improve the performance of the said students in tests.
Big Blue Hearts is the latest of the several public service initiatives by ABS-CBN and Knowledge Channel Foundation that help provide education to students in need.

Rural Transit Mindanao elects new board
Rural Transit (Mindanao) Inc. held its annual stockholders’ meeting on Feb. 10, 2021.
During the meeting, Olivia V. Yanson, Leo Rey V. Yanson, Charles M. Dumancas, Rey C. Ardo, Anita G. Chua, and Daniel Nicolas P. Golez were re-elected as members of RTMI’s board of directors.
Following the election of the directors, the board held an organizational meeting and reappointed Leo Rey V. Yanson as chairman of the board and president of RTMI, while Olivia V. Yanson was re-appointed as corporate secretary and treasurer, according to a company statement issued to reporters.
RTMI chairman and president Leo Rey V. Yanson assured the public that despite the challenges faced in 2020, the company remains strong and resilient.
