Republic Cement holds donation drive
Republic Cement, in partnership with local government units and concerned Republic Cement dealers, distributed over 6,200 relief packs worth P2.2 million in various areas of dealership.
These packs contained rice, clean drinking water, noodles, canned goods, coffee and cereal drinks. Donations were turned over to different cities and municipalities in need of assistance in Bicol, Cagayan, Isabela, Rizal and Norzagaray, Bulacan.
“As a long-standing member of these communities and as a responsible corporate citizen, it is our duty to rise to the occasion when our communities need support,” said Republic Cement chief executive Nabil Francis. “We are serious about our pledge towards nation-building and this is no different in times of crisis. We will continue to provide aid to our communities in need while advocating for a safer and stronger Republic.”
Republic Cement also opened a call for donation among its employees for a second wave of relief efforts, with the company committing to match the total donation amount.
PCCI’s Chua is 2020 Most Influential Man of the Year
Businessman and former ambassador Francis Chua has been named by the Philippine Cancer Society Inc. (PCSI) as 2020 Most Influential Man of the Year.
The recognition is given annually by the PCSI to individuals who have made valuable contributions to the cause of the group.
Chua, currently chairman of the country’s largest business group the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) also served as president of the Chamber of the Philippine Islands, the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Industry, and PCCI.
Chua works with philanthropists to reach out to those with less in life.
During the pandemic, Chua’s BA Foundation distributed to frontliners, personal protective equipment, face masks, face shields, testing kits, and supplements.
Chua is also a member of TzuChi Foundation which recently distributed P1 billion for families affected by typhoons Rolly and Ulysses in Marikina and Rizal.
Coloring Lives art exhibit at Sunshine Place
Sunshine Place members are showcasing their works in Coloring Lives, an online Art Exhibit from December 12 — 23. The exhibit highlights 146 works in acrylic, oil, porcelain and diamond works aiming to reinforce the fact that art heals, and can bring out the best in us especially during difficult times.
The exhibit brings together the works of 26 artists in four of the Sunshine Place’s online art classes. These include the Acrylic and oil painting classes of Arts Association of the Philippines President Fidel Sarmiento; the Porcelain painting class of Mee Lee Casey, a Malaysian expat wife, who has been teaching Porcelain Painting in UK, Hong Kong and Australia for more than 20 years; and Diamond painting with Gobi Buencamino.
Art classes are said to be beneficial for the development of cognitive functions such as imagination, creativity, motor and analyzing skills. More than that, art heals by lessening depression, anxiety and boredom, especially for the homebound. And the exhibit has certainly colored the lives of members who participated in its online classes.

LBC expands in UAE
