Local wind energy technology provider Coastal Renewable Energy Technology Center (CRETC) has partnered with German firm Ammonit GmbH for the provision of modern wind resource assessment products in the Philippines.

The parties said in a statement on Sunday Ammonit aims to equip the Philippine RE sector with top-tier wind resource assessment instruments and solutions essential for ensuring accuracy, durability and reliability across varied environmental conditions.

Peter Castro, CRETC vice president and general manager, expressed optimism about the collaboration.

“This partnership with Ammonit underscores our shared commitment to building a greener future. By integrating Ammonit’s globally recognized technology with our local expertise, we can empower communities, reduce carbon emissions and contribute to the nation’s energy security,” said Castro.

The parties said wind resource assessment is crucial in the Philippines due to its unique geographic and climatic factors that affect energy generation.

Proper assessment of wind potential not only reduces investment risks but also maximizes energy yields for each project as the country moves towards greater energy independence, they added.

Based on data from the Department of Energy, as of end-2023, the country’s total installed on-grid power capacity from wind resources is at 427 megawatts (MW) equivalent to 1.5 percent of the total 28,291 MW.

For the similar period, total installed off-grid power capacity from wind resources is at 16.56 MW or 2.4 percent of the total 684.67 MW.

CRETC is focused on helping develop RE projects located in coastal areas of the Philippines. Ammonit GmbH has expertise in wind resource assessment that offers high-quality products and services for the RE industry worldwide.
