RIDE hailing firm Grab Philippines said it has trained and prepared almost 7,000 taxi drivers to conduct cashless rides in compliance with government directives.
Brian Cu, Grab Philippines president, said during the training, the company highlighted the ease of using GrabPay for accepting cashless payments, as well as several safety and hygiene best practices that taxi drivers can learn from.
Aside from mitigating the spread of infection brought about by the exchange of cash, adapting cashless payments coupled with the Grab platform’s robust contact tracing system with the Department of Health, will also allow for improved contact tracing capabilities especially in public transportation such as taxis.
Grab resumed its GrabTaxi services in Baguio and Naga last May 22, piloting with almost 400 drivers to help ferry workers as community quarantine guidelines relax in these cities
Last week, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) partnered with various digital payment providers to boost the use of cashless or contactless transactions to further curb the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The LTFRB said it is encouraging the use of contactless payments as a means to prevent the spread of COVID-19 once operations of these modes of transport resume. To facilitate this, the agency has been in talks with various cashless payment providers.
