MAJORITY of Filipinos are re-entering active work with a sense of worry that they might contract the new coronavirus, initial results of a survey commissioned by health maintenance organization PhilCare showed.
The survey showed nearly 60 percent of respondents said they are not comfortable about going to work while an even bigger proportion, 77 percent, said they do not feel comfortable leaving their homes with the ongoing pandemic.
The respondents were asked to rate statements using a five-point scale where one means strong agreement up to five, which indicates their strong disagreement.
When asked about the things that make them worried the most, 92.25 percent said that they worry about testing positive for COVID-19.
Almost as many respondents get worried each time they heard the number of cases (92.75 percent) or about the possibility of a “second wave” of the pandemic (92 percent).
Respondents were also worried about their family’s finances (83.75 percent) and where to get food (81 percent)
Apart from going back to the workplace, respondents said they are also uncomfortable with going to the mall (88.75 percent), restaurants (87.75 percent), on vacation (86 percent), and hospitals (70.75 percent) (refer to figure 2).
The initial findings were culled from a telephone survey of 400 respondents from 41 provinces nationwide; 33 percent coming from the national capital who were interviewed between May 10 and 14.
The biggest group of respondents said they were unemployed during the survey. Over a fifth (22.75 percent) were in the services sector, while another 11 percent were laborers. Officials and professionals accounted for 12.5 percent of the respondents.
