The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the International Finance Corp. (IFC) of the World Bank (WB) are pursuing the implementation of various projects in the road, aviation and maritime sectors to enhance mobility and connectivity in the country.

The DOTr and IFC yesterday discussed in detail updates on the progress of WB-funded projects of the agency during the coordination meeting at the IFC office at the Bonifacio Global City.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said in a statement the coordination meeting will help resolve contentious issues in the four sectors of transportation. “We are here precisely to identify those issues and agree on solutions,” he said.

Also discussed were the resiliency of seaports and maritime connectivity in the country and the inter-island ferry decarbonization pilot project.

The WB’s technical and financial assistance to the DOTr would lead to better mobility and connectivity, Bautista said.

At present, the WB is assisting DOTr on several projects, including the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit, Urban Mass Transport Modernization Program, and E-mobility in public transport.

The DOTr and IFC are also pursuing the modernization of the Iloilo Airport, Bohol-Panglao International Airport and Laguindingan Airport as well as the Light Rail Transit (LRT) line 2.

Last November, the DOTr and IFC signed contracts for consultancy services for unsolicited proposals for the regional airports and the rehabilitation, expansion, operation and maintenance (REOM) of the LRT-2.
