Manila Water is racing against time to plug a leak that’s threatening to turn seven barangays of Mandaluyong into dry zones.

While most residents worry about leaks in their group chats, Mandaluyong’s got a real one—gushing beneath Bonifacio Avenue.

That’s over 12,000 households temporarily cut off from their taps.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the company said the activity will cause a temporary water service interruption in barangays Poblacion, Plainview, New Zaniga, San Jose, Old Zaniga, Namayan, and Pag-Asa.

The leak was caused by a line breakage, although the exact reason is still being determined.

The company assured residents that water tankers are being deployed to affected areas to augment supply while repairs are underway.

Once service is restored, customers are advised to allow a few minutes for flushing before using water from their taps, as discoloration may occur.

In a separate statement, Manila Water said it will also deploy septic tank desludging services to 41 barangays next month.

The company emphasized that the service is offered at no additional cost and aims to help households maintain proper sanitation, prevent water pollution, and reduce health risks associated with untreated wastewater.

Residents are encouraged to coordinate with their respective barangays or visit Manila Water’s official channels to confirm their schedule and avail of the service.

“Our regular desludging program is a proactive step toward protecting public health and the environment. By offering this service at no additional cost, we empower communities to maintain proper sanitation and contribute to cleaner waterways across our service areas,”Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water’s Corporate Communication Affairs Group Director, said in a statement.

Manila Water primarily serves customers in the East Zone of Metro Manila, including Makati, Pasig, Pateros, Marikina, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Taguig, parts of Quezon City and Manila, as well as several towns in Rizal Province such as Taytay, Teresa, Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, San Mateo, and Rodriguez.
