VITRO Inc., the data center arm of the PLDT Group and a subsidiary of ePLDT, has deployed NVIDIA-powered graphic processing unit (GPU) servers in its facility to address the rising demand for artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Situated in a 5-hectare property in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, the 50-megawatt capacity VITRO Sta. Rosa (VSR) started operation in July last year.
Built to support enterprises, hyperscalers and AI platforms, the mega facility is specifically designed to accommodate the rising demands of AI workloads, VITRO said.
Activating and operating live GPU servers, VSR has advanced AI capabilities and enhances ePLDT’s GPU-as-a-Service offerings, allowing businesses to utilize cost-effective, high-performance computing, and accelerate AI-driven digital transformation, it added.
“We envision VITRO Sta. Rosa as the Philippines’ AI hub, forming the country’s first AI ecosystem. This new milestone showcases VSR’s true capabilities to host the latest AI platforms that will reshape our digital landscape today,” said Victor Genuino, ePLDT & VITRO president and chief executive officer, in a February 23 statement.
To meet the increasing demands of AI, VSR continues to innovate, with ready plans to support up to 100 kW per rack, VITRO said. As AI technologies evolve, VSR will integrate the latest power and cooling solutions to stay ahead of AI’s rapidly changing requirements.
By enabling cutting-edge technologies such as AI, VSR contributes to positioning the Philippines as a digital hub in the Asia-Pacific, attracting global investments and fostering technological advancements that drive economic growth and innovation, VITRO said.
Last year, the VSR data center enabled its telco partners to establish their points-of-presence and further enhance the facility’s network diversity and redundancy.
These telco partners include PLDT, Radius, Eastern Telecommunications, Philcom, Infinivan, HGC Global Communications Ltd. and Converge ICT.
