The Department of Tourism (DOT) expects tourist arrivals via cruises to grow even further with the implementation of the Cruise Visa Waiver (CVW) program which streamlines visa processes for international cruise passengers.
In her speech at the launch of the CVW in Pasay City on Tuesday, DOT Secretary Christina Frasco said the country is projected to receive 180,000 visitors from the expected 117 port calls this year.
In 2023, the Philippines received 123 port calld and 101,000 visitors.
“The Philippines offers a myriad of opportunities for cruising in the Philippines as well as providing industry manpower to cruise lines all over the world. The country also has massive potential in becoming the cruise tourism hub of Asia across our 7,641 islands. The Cruise Visa Waiver program (will make) the Philippines become more accessible, welcoming and attractive,” Frasco said.
A collaboration among the Bureau of Immigration the Department of Justice and the DOT, the CVW program enables visa-required nationals onboard cruise ship vessels arriving in the Philippines secure entry visas faster and more conveniently.
DOJ assistant secretary Majken Anika Gran-Ong reassured stakeholders stringent measures remain in place to safeguard the country’s borders, ensuring the safety and security of travelers.
“The Philippines is well on its way towards becoming a preferred destination for luxurious expedition cruises to cruise ships that can accommodate a bigger number of people,” Frasco said.
