US-based global tech-care company Asurion is considering establishing a new contact center in Cebu City, where it plans to hire at least 500 employees this year to serve its growing clientele in the US, an agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.
The DTI’s Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Washington DC (PTIC-WDC) said in a social media post on Tuesday the expansion in Cebu will put Asurion on track to grow its total Philippine workforce to about 8,000 employees.
The PTIC-WDC said Asurion General Counsel Grant Mullins informed Philippine Commercial Counselor Kenneth Yap and Minister and Consul Hans Siriban of the company’s expansion plan during a meeting at the PTIC-WDC’s office on June 5.
The investment cost was not disclosed.
PTIC-WDC quoted Yap as saying that the Philippines is Asurion’s sole site outside the US for cell phone re-manufacturing, employing around 1,400 skilled technicians focused on repairing iPhones.
According to the post, Asurion is a tech care company that serves one in three households, providing more than 100 million US customers smart device insurance, technical support and repair services.
Asurion has been operating in the Philippines for 16 years, employing skilled Filipino professionals across its software development, mobile phone remanufacturing, call center, and technical support operations in Manila, Laguna, Iloilo and most recently in Clark, where the company successfully completed staffing for its call center expansion in 2024.
Combined, these facilities employed more than 6,500 as of end 2024, a profile of Asurion posted by Great Place to Work Philippines shows.
Since launching in 2009, Asurion Philippines has successfully restored and shipped over 10 million iPhones back to the US, PTIC-WDC said.
Asurion was founded in 1994 in Nashville, and has since expanded to more than 700 locations with 23,000 employees, the company’s website shows.
The company serves more than 300 million customers worldwide and counts global brands such as Amazon, Samsung and Verizon as its partners. It provides protection, repair, installation, and expert support for a broad range of smart devices.
