US-based healthcare giant Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) wants to expand its Philippine operations with an investment of   between $300 million and $500 million to develop a premium, state-of-the-art tertiary hospital.

A press statement from the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Investment and Economic Affairs (OSAPIEA) on Wednesday disclosed that this was relayed by officials of BSMH in a meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last Monday in Washington, D.C.

OSAPIEA said this  planned expansion would mark one of the largest private-sector healthcare investments by a US-based system in the Philippines.

OSAPIEA said BSMH operates in the Philippines through its subsidiaries Nordic, which provides information technology services, and BSMH Philippines, which  provides back-end support services to its global operations.

From a current team of about 170, BSMH plans to expand its Global Business Service  operations in Manila to 1,200 professionals, according to the statement.

This service hub will operate alongside BSMH’s US-based teams to enhance the organization’s non-patient-facing capabilities.

“As a $13-billion integrated Catholic health delivery system based in the United States, we’re proud to expand our global reach and deepen our existing commitment in the Philippines. After meeting with President Marcos, Jr. today, we are excited to begin the aggressive exploration of developing state-of-the-art healthcare delivery services to provide unique, premium access to the Filipinos and our own associates,”  John Starcher, president and CEO of BSMH, said.

Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, BSMH is one of the world’s largest not-for-profit health systems, a background material provided by OSAPIEA stated.

BSMH has more than 50 hospitals, 1,200 care sites across the US  and Ireland, and a global workforce of over 60,000, OSAPIEA said.
