SIRIUS International Holding, a unit of the second largest holding company in the Middle East, expressed interest in exploring potential partnerships in technology sectors across various industries, including fishery, nuclear power plants, construction, healthcare, and hospitality with Philippine companies, according to Trade Secretary Cristina Roque.
In a statement on Monday, Roque also disclosed the plan of another United Arab Emirates (UAE) conglomerate Lulu Group International to increase sourcing of products from the Philippines.
Roque said while no formal commitments were made from Sirius at this time, “the meeting served as a valuable opportunity to showcase the extensive operations of Sirius to the Philippine delegation.”
Roque led a delegation of private and public representatives to Abu Dhabi last week.
Sirius International is a subsidiary of International Holdings Corp., the second largest holding company in the region, next to Saudi Aramco.
Roque also met with representatives from Lulu Group International, a leading multinational conglomerate, where she highlighted the Philippines’ growing economic role in the region and the strong demand for local products.
Roque said the DTI and the Lulu Group will sign a memorandum of understanding or agreement on increasing the Philippines’ exports to the company.
Lulu Group operates 258 stores across the UAE and has a logistics and export center in Laguna. Roque also met with officials of Spinneys, a leading supermarket chain in the UAE, to explore the possibility of selling more products of Philippine small and medium enterprises in their supermarkets.
