The combined effects of the Southwest Monsoon and three recent typhoons brought about P6.4 billion in damage to infrastructure across the country, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways.
As of 6:00 a.m. on July 28, DPWH data showed that the hardest hit was Region III, with a damage cost of P3.1 billion. This was followed by Region IV-A at P999.5 million, and Region I at P873 million.
In addition, the National Capital Region incurred P519.3 million in infrastructure damage, the Negros Island Region (NIR) P480 million, and Region VI P229.8 million.
DPWH emphasized that the reported cost of damages are subject for field validation.
In a related development, the DPWH situational report as of 6:00 a.m. on July 28 noted that the combined effects of the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Cyclones “Crising,” “Dante,” and Tropical Storm “Emong” have resulted in multiple road closures and limited access across Luzon and parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
Six national road sections are closed to traffic: two in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR); two in Region III; and two in Region IV-A due to debris on bridge deck, soil collapse, flooding, and collapsed roadway.
Sixteen national road sections have limited access: four in CAR; four in Region I; six in Region III; one in Negros Island Region (NIR); and one in Region IX due to road cut, washed-out detour road, road slip, flooding, precautionary measures, and washed-out bridge detour.
All other national roads and bridges in the affected regions are passable to all types of vehicles ,according to DPWH.
