MERALCO Power Gen Corp. (MGen) affiliate Terra Solar Philippines Inc. (TSPI) has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Power Construction Corporation of China Ltd. (Power China).
MGen in a statement on Monday said the contract covers the development of the east-side portion of the MTerra, the world’s largest contiguous solar and battery power plant.
Power China and its affiliates will oversee procurement, design, engineering, permitting, manufacturing, testing, logistics and on-site delivery of materials related to the project execution.
The agreement also covers warranty, defect resolution and the implementation of operational and maintenance protocols to ensure long-term reliability and success of the MTerra solar project’s east section which spans approximately 1,505 hectares.
The area includes Barangay Makabaklay in Gapan, Barangay Pias in General Tinio and Barangay Callos in Peñaranda, all in Nueva Ecija. The section accounts for 1,050 megawatts (MW) of the total capacity of the Terra solar project.
The entire project involves a 3,500 MW solar power plant and a 4,500 megawatt hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) in Central Luzon which is estimated to provide clean energy to more than two million households.
“MTerra Solar serves as our bold step towards ensuring a sustainable energy future for the Philippines and with Power China as our partner, we are well on our way to achieving our vision of a cleaner energy future for the Philippines,” said Dennis Jordan, TSPI president and executive director. TSPI is a subsidiary of Solar Philippines New Energy Corp. (SPNEC). In turn, MGEN Renewable Energy Inc., the renewable energy arm of MGen, holds the controlling stake in SPNEC.
