Federated Land Transport Organizations of the Philippines (FELTOP) lauded the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) pledge to remove the P169 computer fee collected in public utility vehicles’ (PUV) registration renewal.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista has vowed to take action on FELTOP’s complaint regarding the collection of P169 computer fee by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in the processing of the PUV registration renewal and miscellaneous transactions.
FELTOP president Diolito Inosanto and officers Namita Lorenzo and Jun Rustico Braga noted Bautista’s responsiveness and attentiveness to the concerns of the public utility transport sector, especially on their complaint on the reimposition of the computer fees.
“We are pleasantly surprised that the Secretary had granted us an audience to listen to our issues. And what makes this more special is that Sec. Bautista had promised immediate action by telling us that he would order the P169 computer fee being collected by the LTO to be stopped as soon as possible,” Braga said.
Braga, however, clarified that Bautista’s pledge to scrap the collection of the computer fees only covers PUVs renewing their registration.
Last November, FELTOP filed a graft case against LTO chief, assistant secretary Vigor Mendoza II, before the Office of the Ombudsman for the alleged anomalous collection of the P169 fee for processing registration renewals.
The computer fee was removed earlier when the LTO, under the previous administration, undertook the computerization of its in-house information technology systems and contracted the establishment of the Land Transportation Management System set up by German-led Dermalog-Holy Family Printing Corp.-Microgenesis, a joint venture group.
