DMCI Mining Corp. said it is on track to transition its operations from a single mine for most of 2024, to three active mines this year.

With this development, the company will have a combined annual production capacity of 3 million wet metric tons (WMT) from the three mines, a significant increase from last year’s production, it said in a statement yesterday.

The company has yet to release its full-year 2024 performance, including its ore output last year. In the first half of 2024, DMCI Mining recorded output of 782,000 WMT.

DMCI Mining said its Zambales Chromite Mining Co. (ZCMC) in Santa Cruz, Zambales started operations last month and is expected to reach full operational capacity by the first quarter of 2025.

ZCMC operates under an environmental compliance certificate permitting an annual production limit of 1 million WMT.

Meanwhile, the company said its Berong Nickel Corp. (BNC) in Palawan is preparing to restart production through its Long Point mine in Aborlan and is in the final stages of securing its mineral production sharing agreement.

“Our two new mines, ZCMC and BNC’s Long Point, mark a long-anticipated step forward for DMCI Mining. With increased production capacity and the Long Point port nearing completion, we are confident in delivering improved operational and financial performance this year,” said Tulsi Das Reyes, DMCI Mining president.

Last year, DMCI Mining set a P634-million capital expenditure. This year, it said it plans to allocate P400 million additional investments to support its expansion.

“We’re targeting a combined annual production capacity of three million WMT from our three mines, including Zambales Diversified Metals Corp., subject to the approval of necessary permits for Long Point,” Reyes said.

DMCI Mining, a wholly owned subsidiary of DMCI Holdings Inc., extracts nickel ore through surface mining. It ships nickel ore directly to markets in China and other countries.
