Three airports up for grabs as nine firms submit bids to DOTr

A total of nine construction firms have submitted bids for three regional airport development projects worth a combined P787.6 million, according to Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The DOTr Bids and Awards Committee conducted the submission and opening of bids, via FB live-stream yesterday,    for the Busuanga Airport Development Project, as well as the Borongan and Puerto Princesa airport development projects.

The P661.3 million Busuanga Airport Development Project drew the biggest interest with four bidders: Duros Development Corp.; Tokwing Construction Corp., Mamsar Construction and Industrial Corp joint venture;  Octagon Concrete Solutions Inc., and Unimasters Conglomeration Inc.

The project covers the construction and concreting of a new 45-meter-wide runway and a 150-meter runway strip, to be completed in 420 calendar days.

DOTr said that four firms also submitted bids for Borongan airport which include JJ Palacio Construction, Tubigan Builders, BM Marketing, and ESD Cruz Construction and Supply.

The P50.6-million project involves building a box culvert and grouted canal, with a 180-day completion period.

The Puerto Princesa development airport project, the DOTr said, saw  BM Marketing emerge as the lone bidder for the P75.7-million project, which entails continuing the asphalt overlay of the airport’s runway, with a 150-day timeline.

The bidding followed open competitive procedures under the 2016 revised Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act 9184.

Building key tourism, economic hubs

According to the DOTr, the projects are part of efforts to modernize regional airports, enhance air travel safety, and improve access to key tourism and economic hubs outside Metro Manila.

The combined initiatives reflect the government’s push to modernize regional airports, strengthen air travel safety, and enhance access to emerging tourism and economic hubs outside Metro Manila.
