Local renewable energy developer Taft Hydro Energy Corp. (THEC) said its 16 megawatts (MW) hydro power project in Barangay San Rafael, Taft in Eastern Samar is over 98 percent complete.
THEC said the project will be ready in time for the holiday peak demand season.
Benjie Picardo, THEC president, said in a statement construction of the project could be considered a record as it only took 18 months.
Picardo added the power plant is envisioned to provide power to the island of Samar which is part of the country’s Tuna Highway which currently lacks electricity supply, hampering investments in cold storage and processing facilities.
