PLDT Inc. and unit Smart Communications Inc. yesterday said they will continue to work with lawmakers in improving the proposed measure on refund for telecommunication service outages and disruptions.
“PLDT and Smart have their refund mechanisms in place in case of service disruption or outages consistent with existing regulations and policies,” they said in a statement.
“Allowing ISPs (internet service providers) to define their refund mechanism is consistent with the policy to promote a healthy competitive environment,” said PLDT and Smart, referring to a Senate Bill No. 2074 which requires ISPs to institute a mechanism that will enable them to automatically refund or adjust the bills of their postpaid and prepaid subscribers whenever there are service disruptions.
The bill mandates refund credit to a customer who experienced a service outage and disruption for an aggregate period of 24 hours or more within a month.– Myla Iglesias
