Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) solar power subsidiary Spectrum has been tapped by Anglo Watsons Glass Inc., a unit of Emperador Inc., for a solar rooftop project in the latter’s glass manufacturing plant in Laguna.

Under the deal, a 2 megawatts (MW) solar photovoltaic system will be put up in Anglo Watsons’ six-hectare facility inside the Silangan Industrial Park in Calamba.

The project is set for completion in February and can generate approximately 2.5 million kilowatt-hours of energy annually.

The facility will also reduce Anglo Watsons’ carbon footprint by an estimated 1,929 metric tons, equivalent to planting about 200,000 trees in 20 years or reducing around 7.2 million kilometers in vehicle travel per year.

Anglo Watsons produces about 150 million flint glass bottles a year for Emperador’s products including Emperador Light, Andy Player Whisky, Zabana Rum and The Bar. – Jed Macapagal
