President Duterte approved the release of P120 million for the implementation of rural electrification projects in the countryside, according to the National Electrification Administration (NEA).
NEA said the project involves the installation of solar panels in 44 public schools in four provinces.
NEA said of the amount, P20 million will be allotted for 11 public schools in t Ilocos Norte, Cebu and Nueva Ecija while bulk of it or P100 million will be for 33 public schools in Lipa City, Batangas.
NEA added the project aims to generate savings by sourcing a portion of the schools’ electricity demand from solar rooftops and to mitigate climate change through the utilization of indigenous renewable energy sources.
NEA added the amount will be come from the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Under the GAA for the year, P1.628 billion has been allotted for NEA for the continued implementation of the sitio electrification program and P750 million for the electric cooperatives emergency and resiliency fund.
As a supervisory body to all 121 electric cooperatives nationwide, NEA regularly monitors distribution system parameters such as systems loss and reliability, circuit kilometers and substation capacity to ensure that they remain operationally reliant and technically efficient in delivering service to their member-consumers.
