PLDT Inc. wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. delivered the fastest fifth generation (5G) mobile network in the country for the first half of 2021, according to the latest report by Ookla.
Smart got the fastest mobile network award with a speed score of 44.70, a big leap from previous year’s 24.99, based on 4.9 million user-initiated tests taken with Speedtest in the Philippines from first quarter to second quarter this year, the internet testing and analytics firm said.
Smart posted median download and upload speeds of 220.66 megabits per second (Mbps) and 20.61 Mbps, respectively, based on 237,142 user-initiated 5G tests taken with Speedtest in the Philippines in the first half of 2021, Ookla added.
Rival telco Globe Telecom Inc. delivered median download and upload speeds of 103.2 Mbps and 8.07 Mbps, respectively, and a 102 speed score during the first half this year.
