Singaporean firm Pacific Impact Development Pte. Ltd. is in the early stage of developing its $25-million, 25-megawatt (MW) solar power project in Aurora to provide a renewable energy (RE) option to the province at a lower price.

Gil Taway IV, president and chief executive officer of the Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO), said on Thursday APECO is collaborating with the company in seeking a power supply agreement (PSA) with Aurora Electric Cooperative Inc. (Aurelco) to be able to energize locators of APECO and neighboring communities as soon as possible.

According to Taway, Pacific Impact is proposing to offer power rates that would enable Aurelco to sell power to consumers at P9 per kilowatt, compared to P15 and P21 in some parts of the province.

“I’m confident Pacific Impact will be able to secure a PSA so they can go full blast in their development,” said Taway in an interview on the sidelines of the inauguration of APECO’s satellite office in Parañaque City.

In a separate interview, Darwin Deato, Pacific Impact country president, said the company plans to start with 10 megawatts, then expanding to 15 MW, with a plan to engage in wind power depending on the demand.

Deato said the company will tap into the grid once the Baler substation is completed by 2029.

The facility will be located in a 25-hectare land in APECO.

Pacific Impact currently has a wind energy service contract from the Department of Energy for its project in Albay. It also has other RE projects across the country, mostly utility-scale and off-grid solar power projects.
