THE National Electrification Administration (NEA) said the Siargao Electric Cooperative Inc. (Siarelco) has restored electricity services to its entire franchise area last Saturday, after fixing a major line fault in one of its undersea cables.

Antonio Mariano Almeda, NEA administrator, in a statement over the weekend, said a four megawatt (MW) modular generator set (genset) has been commissioned in the province while full repair of the damaged line is still ongoing.

NEA said prior to the restoration, power outage in the region lasted for 13 days.

The genset was part of the imported alternative sources of electricity delivered by neighboring electric cooperatives to Siarelco in critical areas while the damaged undersea cables are being repaired.

Almeda said another set of 8 MW worth of gensets from Agusan del Norte Electric Cooperative Inc. that will serve as additional augmented power supply in Siargao were also installed and commissioned.

NEA serves as a supervisory body to all 121 electric cooperatives nationwide to regularly monitor distribution system parameters such as systems loss and reliability, circuit kilometers and substation capacity to ensure that they remain operationally reliant and technically efficient in delivering services.
