The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) expects passenger traffic at the ports to continue to increase during these “ber” months given the rebound of the economy and the tourism industry.

In time for the expected influx of passengers, PPA yesterday launched a campaign advocating traveling by sea through its new and improved seaports.

“We want to show our patriots that it is more enjoyable to travel from our ports now because you can bring your car to the ship…, you can buy a lot of food at the docks, it’s convenient to wait at the passenger terminals, and you can visit more tourist destinations,” said Jay Santiago, PPA general manager, in a statement.

In the “ber” months of 2022, PPA recorded 19.7 million passengers in its 25 Port Management Offices (PMOs). The highest number of passengers of almost 6 million was recorded at the Port of Iloilo , followed by the Ports of Batangas, Jordan (PMO Panay/ Guimaras), Babak (PMO Davao) and Calapan (PMO Mindoro).

“It is expected that passenger traffic at ports will continually increase given the rebound of the economy and the tourism industry as we move forward to the post-pandemic phase and fortunately. We are prepared for this since even during the height of the pandemic, we pushed for the continuous construction and improvement of our facilities which we inaugurated and opened to the public in the past months,” Santiago said.

PPA also launched its latest #PPAsyalTayo Music video campaign which features travel destinations around the Philippines that can be accessed via seaports as well as the original song “Lakbay Pinas” composed and sung by the PPA Chorale.
