The second phase of a bulk water supply project in Rizal Province is 30 percent complete and is expected to be fully completed by 2025.
Melvin John Tan, WawaJVCo president, announced the progress at yesterday’s inauguration of the project’s first phase, Tayabasan weir, which will deliver an initial 80 million liters per day (MLD) of raw water to Manila Water Co. Inc. and the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.
When fully completed, the project will deliver at least 518 MLD of water to over 500,000 households.
Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc. said the second phase of the project also recently achieved a river diversion milestone that will minimize risk of construction execution.
This allows WawaJVCo to start construction of the main dam body within the month, enabling work through the wet season and complete the project on schedule.
Wawa JV Co. is a joint venture between Prime Infra and businessman Oscar Violago’s San Lorenzo Ruiz Builders Group.
Tan said the entire cost of the facility is P26 billion.
Enrique Razon Jr., Prime Infra chairman, said WawaJVCo also obtained the approval of the indigenous people of Antipolo and Rodriguez on the second phase of the project.
This is the fourth and final memorandum of agreement in the Free and Prior, Informed Consent (FPIC) process for the project. Subsequently, WawaJVCo received the Certificate Precondition from the NCIP (National Commission on Indigenous Peoples), certifying that the FPIC process has been complied with by the company, and the communities have given its consent to the project,” Razon said.
