Philippine Infradev Holdings Inc. said it is working to revisit its agreement with the City of Makati on their subway project after the Supreme Court declared some areas of Makati as part of Taguig City.
The company in a regulatory filing said the development made the alignment of the subway no longer “feasible.”
“Under the joint venture agreement executed between the Makati City government and the company, the depot and a few stations of the Makati City subway system will be in the affected areas,” it said.
The Supreme Court ruling transferred 10 barangays to the jurisdiction of Taguig City that affected at least three elements of the subway project: the depot in Barangay Cembo, the planned station in University of Makati in West Rembo and the planned station in Ospital ng Makati in Pembo.
Philippine Infradev said it wrote the Makati City government to propose the commencement of discussions in light of the change in law the Supreme Court decision brings.
The 10-kilometer Makati Intra-City Subway, with 10 stations and costing $3.7 billion, was eyed to be operational by 2025.
The company said construction started in 2018 but no updates were provided on the status of the project to date.– Ruelle Castro
