RE developer seeks ERC approval for P1.19B power plant connection facility

Local renewable energy (RE) firm Emerging Power Inc. (EPI), through its subsidiary Northern Palawan Power Generation Corp. (NPPGC), is seeking the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) approval to develop, own, operate and maintain dedicated point-to-point limited transmission facilities to connect its 145.007 megawatts (MW) Cawag solar power project to the national grid.

The ERC filing on January 22 mentioned that NPPGC’s planned power plant connection project will cost P1.19 billion.

Located in Zambales, the project will be connected to the 230 kV Subic (Hanjin) substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

The filing also said the project is needed as the company eyes to complete the first phase of its solar power plant with an initial capacity of 70.011 MW by June 2025, while the second phase with 74.996 Mp is set to be completed by October 2025

ERC has scheduled a pre-trial conference on February 21.

Last month, NPPGC entered into a power supply agreement (PSA) with Adventpower Inc. and Adventenergy Inc., the retail electricity supplier units of Aboitiz Power Corp., for the supply of RE.

The said PSA will be sourced from the Cawag solar power project.

The parties did not give further details on the partnership.
