Solar Philippines will start the construction this year of what it called the country’s biggest solar power project in the country in Nueva Ecija.
The project will have a capacity of up to 500 megawatts (MW).
Leandro Leviste, Solar Philippines founder, in a statement said the project will be located on a former ranchland in Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija and is expected to create over 5,000 jobs during construction and over 500 jobs during operations.
Wholly-owned subsidiary, Solar Philippines Nueva Ecija Corp. will build the first 225 MW set to be the largest solar project in the Philippines to date and will be followed by the balance of the up to 500 MW which could then be the biggest in Southeast Asia.
Leviste also said the company is keeping its options open on off-take agreements for the project and can opt to sell its output into the wholesale electricity spot market to supplement the Luzon grid’s thin reserves.
