Over 13 million kilowatt hours of clean energy every year, an estimated P5.8 million in monthly energy savings, and a yearly offset of 9,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. All this is coming on the way of Mindanao courtesy of a solar power purchase agreement (PPA) recently signed betweeen Berde Renewables Inc., a local renewable energy developer, and KCC Malls and Biotech Farms.

Berde Renewables revealed in a statement on Thursday that the 8.4 megawatts (MW) PPA deal will deliver clean, cost-efficient energy to KCC Mall General Santos, KCC Mall Marbel in South Cotabato, KCC Mall Zamboanga, and the Biotech Farms’ agro-industrial facility in South Cotabato.

Under the partnership, Berde Renewables will fully finance the project and oversee engineering, procurement, and construction, as well as long-term operations and maintenance.

Once operational, the systems are expected to generate approximately 13 million kilowatt hours of clean energy annually, resulting in an estimated P5.8 million in monthly energy savings and offsetting 9,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Berde Renewables added that the agreement allows KCC Malls to integrate renewable energy into its operations while boosting efficiency and resilience while Biotech Farms is getting secured reliable power with reduced carbon footprint of its agro-industrial facility.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to making renewable energy a core part of KCC’s growth and modernization,” Arvin Chan, KCC Malls chief executive officer , said. “By integrating clean energy into our operations, we are elevating our standards in retail sustainability while ensuring that our malls remain resilient, efficient, and aligned with the long-term needs of the communities we serve.”

Rainnyl Chiang, Biotech Farms renewable energy director, said that utilization of RE is central to its operations.

“Adding solar energy to our agro-industrial facility further strengthens our commitment to circular economy principles while ensuring stable, cost-efficient power for our business,” he explained. “This initiative not only reduces our environmental footprint but also supports the broader goal of building a greener, more resilient Mindanao.”

Berde Renewables has already established 45.7 MW of solar projects in the Philippines, with 31 MW currently under construction and another 144 MW in development pipeline.

The company is also expanding into Thailand with a 300 MW project pipeline.

Berde Renewables is also a company under I Squared Capital, a global investor managing over $50 billion in infrastructure assets.

KCC Malls is one of the fastest-growing mall operators in Mindanao, while Biotech Farms is an agro-industrial company with operations that span livestock, feed milling, and food production.
