Quick-commerce digital platform foodpanda supports the passage of the Internet Transactions Act (ITA) but said government should also reduce regulatory uncertainty and address the challenges hindering how players can maximize the use of electronic commerce (e-commerce).

Daniel Marogy, foodpanda Philippines managing director. cited the need to provide a fair playing field in the sector so that small players like micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) can have access to digital platform services.

“To come up with an optimal framework for the entire industry, we also need to balance the interest of all the stakeholders — businesses and consumers alike,” Marogy said.

A legislative priority of the Marcos administration, the ITA seeks to build trust between online merchants and consumers through secure and reliable e-commerce platforms.

Recognizing ITA will help in the development of the industry, Marogy said “we need a strong support and collaboration from key players like us to build an inclusive and sustainable e-commerce ecosystem in the country.

“Given the diversity of the business models in the market today, and the increasing reach of e-eommerce generally, we share the view of the government that appropriate policies to regulate the interaction between businesses, consumers, and other stakeholders is necessary,” Marogy added.
