CONSTRUCTION of the Tandang Sora Station of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) is scheduled to start on June 29, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
With this, motorists may experience traffic slowdowns along the stretch of Mindanao avenue between Congressional avenue and Tandang Sora avenue starting on June 29 to give way to the construction of the station.
The DOTr is advising motorists to take alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion in the construction area.
At present, construction work progress for the MMSP has reached 14 percent and its full operation is expected in the latter part of 2029.
Spanning 33 kilometers across eight local government units in Metro Manila, and passing through three central business districts, the MMSP is an expansive system that will be interconnected with the Light Rail Transit (LRT) line 1, Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 and MRT-7 at the Common Station, LRT-2 at Anonas Station, and physical run through into the North-South Commuter Railway-EX at FTI and Bicutan Stations.
The subway also features a spur line to Ninoy Aquino International Airport at the Terminal 3 Station which makes the airport reachable from Quezon City in as little as 40 minutes.
The MMSP will feature eight-car trainsets carrying up to 2,200 passengers per train, running as fast as 80 km/h, and with trains arriving at stations every five minutes.
Meanwhile, the DOTr plans to bid out the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the country’s first subway system, along with other rail projects including the NSCR project, that is initially targeted this year.
The bidding for the O&M of the MRT-3 and LRT-2 is set for the first quarter of next year, according to the DOTr.
