Qatar Airways Group is targeting to hire a significant number of workers from the Philippines to support the expansion of its operation in the country and globally over the coming months, given the anticipated surge of leisure and business travelers.

Rossen Dimitrov, Qatar Airways chief customer experience officer, said the airline will conduct a recruitment drive to hire cabin crew, lounge staff and contact center staff starting in Manila from April 18 to 21. Recruitment events planned across Cebu, Clark and Davao will be scheduled in the coming weeks.

“The Philippines has always been an important recruitment market for Qatar Airways. We do have quite a large number of Filipino staff in Qatar Airways and it accounts for a large segment of our overall cabin crew population,” Dimitrov said in an email interview.

Qatar Airways said the staff can take advantage of the competitive tax-free income, including accommodation, allowances and transportation for duty, as they get to fly with the only airline in the world that has won the World’s Best Airline six times.

Qatar Airways operates 28 weekly flights originating from Manila, Cebu and Clark to Doha.

The airline maintained its daily flights between Manila and Doha throughout the pandemic and helped over 3.2 million passengers get home safely from March 2020 to December 2021.

Prior to the pandemic, Qatar Airways operated a once-weekly flight between Davao and Doha via Clark. The route is currently suspended but the airline is now monitoring demand to resume the flight when the time is right, according to Dimitrov.

There are over 250,000 Filipinos working in Qatar, accounting for 17 percent of the population.

Dimitrov said Qatar is the third largest country for overseas Filipino workforce. – Myla Iglesias
