The Tariff Commission (TC) will conduct public hearings this month on the possible impact of the expiration of the dumping duty on imported Turkish flour on the local industry.
In a notice, the TC set the schedule for the four public hearings on August 23, 24, 29 and 30.
The definitive anti-dumping duties on the importation of wheat flour from Turkiye are set to expire on October 27
The definitive duties were first imposed in 2017 for a five-year period on 17 Turkish flour millers found to have dumped their products to the Philippines ranging from 2.87 percent to 16.9 percent.
These were extended for three years on September 2020.
“Notice is hereby given that public hearings on the determination of the merits of whether the expiration of the definitive anti-dumping duty imposed on importations of wheat flour from the Republic of Tí¼rkiye would likely lead to the continuation or
recurrence of material injury to the domestic wheat flour industry,” said the TC in the notice.
The Philippine Association of Flour Millers earlier indicated it will ask government to extend the duties for another three years on fears “dumping” would resume once the duties are lifted.
