The Philippine Statistics Authority has warned the public against phishing scams that involve emails using the email display name “philsys.gov.ph” and house-to-house visits by persons or groups claiming to be from the agency.

In an advisory on Monday, September 8, the PSA said these persons or groups have been phishing for personal information, introducing themselves as employees of the PSA, and offering assistance in up-dating your National ID registration by filling out a Google form via email.

The PSA stated that some individuals posing as National ID personnel have been conducting house-to-house visits, requesting to take photos of government-issued IDs in exchange for cash.

“The PSA would like to emphasize that the agency does not authorize these activities,” the state institu-tion said.

“The PSA reiterates that the updating services for the National ID are offered in select National ID reg-istration centers and processed during office hours. Registered persons may avail of the services by personally visiting National ID registration centers offering the service with their supporting documents, and do not require filling out online forms,” the government agency added.

The PSA reminded the public that it neither distributes any cash assistance to National ID holders nor collects data and photos in exchange for cash.

“We strongly encourage the public to exercise caution and vigilance. Such activities are unauthorized and could compromise your privacy and security,” the PSA said.

The PSA urged the public to report such incidents to the official channels of the National ID via Face-book at PSAPhilSysOfficial or send an email to info@philsys.gov.ph. (PNA)
