Primewater says JV operations improved water services

Primewater Infrastructure Corp. said it has been successful in improving water services in areas where it has formed a joint venture (JV) within the past eight years.

From the conception of Primewater JV last 2013, notable improvements have been seen from pre-JV operations, the company said.

“New JV branches such as Mapandan (Pangasinan), Mayantoc (Tarlac), and Gerona (Tarlac) in North Luzon have already recorded more than 13 percent of NRW (non-revenue water) reduction despite operating only for over a year since 2019,” Primewater said.

“On the other hand, older branches which started in 2013-2014, such as Lingayen (Pangasinan) and Lemery (Batangas), reduced more than 19 percent of their NRW, while branches in the VisMin region, specifically Ozamis, Maasin, and Pinamungajan, have shown a 26 percent, 30 percent, and 16 percent reduction, respectively,” it added.

Primewater said for its JV in Bulacan with six water districts, it has provided an additional 32,194 water service connections to Bulacan households as it facilitated the infrastructure development of the water districts.

The company added it also expanded the reach of all its water district partners.

From an initial base of 1.28 million customers before the JV partnership, active service connections have expanded to close to 1.6 million concessionaires, with an additional 305,000 or 19 percent more households with access to safe and potable drinking water in the country, Primewater said.

“With the ongoing service improvements and expansion in various Primewater joint venture partners around the country, water for every household is still a big challenge that the company has been trying to solve for eight years now. These include, among others, aging pipelines, near-obsolete infrastructure and equipment, lack of interconnection points and inefficient transmission or distribution systems,” the company said.
